The Twelfth Annual
Parent University will be held on Saturday, February 9th at Redwood High School in Larkspur. This FREE day of
workshops for parents of teens will feature Lynn Ponton, M.D. (author of The Romance of Risk and The Sex
Lives of Teenagers) as its keynote speaker. The keynote presentation will be followed by free workshops on topics such
as alcohol and drug use among teens, teen internet use, anger and stress management, raising boys, navigating the teen scene,
parent/teen communication, parenting strong-willed teens, talking to your teen about S-E-X, cyber safety and many more. All
workshops are designed to help parents of teens meet today’s challenges and will be led by experts who have extensive experience
and success with teens. Parents will have the opportunity to attend two workshops during the half-day conference.
Parent University XII will be held at Redwood High School (395 Doherty Drive) in
Larkspur, California. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with workshops running until 1:00 p.m. Free on-site childcare will also
be provided. Additionally, resource material for teens, parents and families will be available and Book Passage of Corte Madera
will be on hand selling books on parenting topics. THIS YEAR’S KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Lynn Ponton, M.D. is a practicing clinical psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, and professor of psychiatry at the
University of California, San Francisco. She is a leading figure in adolescent psychiatry with over twenty years of experience
working with teenagers and their parents. Her work has been featured in Newsweek, the Los
Angeles Times, the
San Francisco Chronicle, New York Times and Women’s Day. She has appeared on
Oprah, Good Morning America, Dateline, Today Show and 60 Minutes, and on NPR and PBS. Her
compelling book, The Romance of Risk, takes readers inside the minds of adolescents to provide a compelling look
at today’s teenage experience and challenges traditional views of adolescents.
