A record number of 390 students from 18 public and private school middle schools, along with adult allies and advisors, attended
the FREE day of workshops for teen leaders. This year’s theme was “INSPIRE THE FUTURE: 2-day’s Youth 4 2-moro’s Future”.
Peer Summit participants selected to attend from 27 different workshops, including: Youth Court, Alcohol 101, Social Networking,
Human Beings/Human Rights, Civic Engagement, Cultures of Food, Sustainability and You, College 101, Capoeira, Break Dancing,
DJ’ing, Safe Cosmetics, Body Image and more. Workshops were lead by local agencies and organizations all dedicated to empowering
youth to lead engaged and healthy lives.

The Planning Team for Peer Summit XII was lead by youth representatives from Davidson Middle School, Martin Luther King Academy,
College of Marin and Huckleberry Youth Center. XTACEE, Urban Apache and Rhythm Village performed during morning and lunch breaks
and lunch was provided by Generation Chefs Youth Culinary Cooking Program from The Marin Youth Center. Youth interested in being

Participants’ Comments About Peer Summit:
- “I liked going to Peer Summit so I could develop leadership skills.
- “ I don’t really like always stepping aside and letting other people be the leaders, and I sometimes feel like I can’t
get a word in edgewise about my ideas. I don’t always want to be the leader but it might be nice sometimes.”
- ” Peer Summit was a good learning experience.”
- “From today on, when I make choices, I think I’ll keep in mind how they affect my future.”
- “Very informative, the food taste test is great…I learned what food is healthy and not healthy…and will try to make better
choices.”
- "Commercials are ruining our lives."
- "Helpful, informative, nice, funny, and made me feel better about starting high school.”
